Infrastructure Boom Across Victoria

Posted On June 13, 2018

Victoria is fast outpacing the nation in terms of net population growth. With the capital Melbourne on track to pass 5 million residents this year rocketing up by more than 125,000 additional residents for the second year in a row, the Victorian Government is investing significantly towards the development of infrastructure within the state, across public transport, urban renewal and road projects. With a record $13.7 billion set aside for infrastructure in the recent budget to support a growing population across the State, 2018 is already shaping to be a ground-breaking year for infrastructure across Victoria.

With exciting developments for the state on the agenda, the 2-day conference will bring together over 20 expert speakers and policymakers from the government and private sectors to discuss major infrastructure projects underway as well as those in the pipeline for Victoria.

Presented by the Victorian Planning Authority, the Arden Urban Renewal Precinct will be a global knowledge hub and central city destination. It will complement the neighbouring residential precinct of Macaulay, being planned by the City of Melbourne. Arden Station, being built as part of the Metro Tunnel, is due to open by 2026, making this the ideal location to expand Melbourne’s bustling city centre.

The conference will also profile Fishermans Bend - Australia’s largest urban renewal project. Presented by Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, Cr Bernadine Voss, Fishermans Bend will consist of five precincts across two municipalities – the City of Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip – and connect Melbourne's CBD to the bay.

Also to be featured at the conference is the North East Link Project, which is a new freeway to complete the missing link in Melbourne's road network. North East Link will finally connect Melbourne's freeway network between the M80 Ring Road at Greensborough and the Eastern Freeway or EastLink.

The $2 billion GMW Connections Project is the largest irrigation modernisation project in Australia. Funded by the Victorian and Australian governments, the Project will ensure the sustainable future of productive agriculture in northern Victoria. Frank Fisseler, Project Director – Connections Project, will cover an overview of this landmark project.

The conference attracts close to 200 delegates each year and provides attendees with the perfect opportunity to capitalize on the exciting business opportunities being created.

Other prominent topics to be showcased at the conference include the Victorian Heart Hospital Project, the Geelong City Deal, the Magic Tower Project, along with topics on Automated Vehicle Infrastructure, Airport Rail and Public Private Partnerships.

The two day conference is an opportunity for industry leaders and government officials to share ideas on common challenges and acquire the latest information on major infrastructure projects shaping Victoria.

The 9th Annual Victorian Major Projects Conference is being held on the 4th & 5th of September 2018 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
