Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan has today revealed that The Glen Shopping Centre in Glen Waverley is set for a $490 million re-development.
The re-development will be split into several stages, with stage one set to get underway later this year and will include a general refurbishment of the shopping centre, the establishment of an Aldi store as well as the relocation of the current Woolworths store.
Minister for Industry and Employment Wade Noonan reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to the retail sector.
“This is yet another sign of confidence in the Victorian economy.
“The New Glen redevelopment will create thousands of jobs and boost retail trade in a growing part of our city.
“Retail is one of the great pillars of the Victorian economy – and we’ll continue supporting its future growth to ensure we stay the shopping capital of the nation,” said the Minister.
It is expected that the works over the course of the project will create an estimated 1,150 construction jobs, as well as 1,200 retail and hospitality jobs when completed.
A unique food gallery that will boast two levels worth of restaurants with an elevated view of the Dandenong Ranges will also be established.
When complete in 2020, The Glen will feature 240 retail outlets and 3,650 parking spaces.
