Construction begins on Glen Eira College redevelopment

Posted On September 7, 2016

Works have begun on a $9.5 million complete rebuild of Glen Eira College, as part of the Andrew’s Labor Government's investment in education infrastructure.

Founded in 1997, the Glen Eira College was developed as the result of Caulfield, Murrumbeena and Prahran Secondary College's merging together.

The project will include upgrades and the refurbishment of every building on the school campus, with many of the buildings set to be extended.  A new gateway entrance and student staircase will also be constructed.

Minister for Education James Merlino spoke of the upgrades, stating “This major redevelopment will see the facilities at Glen Eira College match the school’s high quality teaching and learning culture.”

“Glen Eira College is a great school with growing student’s number – this upgrade will help cater for that growth and ensure students and staff have state of the art facilities so they can achieve their best.”

Glen Eira College has been swamped with growth in student numbers recently. In the year of 2003 only 338 students were enrolled, however currently that number has risen to 650, placing a strain on the existing facilities within the college.

The Andrews Labor Government has revealed that the project will be undertaken by 2Construct, a local Victorian company.

The project comes as the Andrews Government recommits to making Victoria the ‘Education State’ with many educational projects in the pipeline. Currently 42 schools will be receiving significant upgrades as part of the Governments $1.8 billion worth of investments.

It is expected that the current and future projects will provide up to 4,000 workers with jobs throughout the process.

The Glen Eira upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of 2017, in time for the 2018 school year.
