Victorian construction up 11.9%

Posted On September 29, 2016

Latest constructions figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) have shown a sharp increase in Victoria, in stark contrast to the rest of the nation which are down.

The latest statistics have shown that Victoria’s engineering construction has increased 11.9% throughout the past year, whilst the rest of Australia is down 25.9%

This is down in part to the strong infrastructure pipeline commitment from the State Government, with the results obvious as the growth has shown. Major projects such as the level crossing removals across Victoria have helped the economy significantly thanks to the results.

The 11.9% growth was the largest of any state in Australia.

Recent budgets have suggested that despite Victoria housing 25% of Australia’s population, it will only receive 9% national infrastructure funding. To put that figure in perspective, NSW will receive 40 per cent of the funding.

Acting Treasurer Robin spoke of the strong growth.

“Victoria’s powerhouse economy is leading the nation; with population growth, employment and construction activity all reflecting the ongoing work of the Andrews Labor Government.”

“Victoria’s heavy lifting is helping to keep the Australian economy strong, despite the distinct lack of direction and support from the Commonwealth.”
